Model Watch: Magen Medlin

There are countless girls all across the world that pose in their mirrors and imagine that they will become a super model or even a well-known actress. Magen Medlin not only has a name that possesses the essence of a superstar, but she is one of the few young women who has decided to actually go after every little girl’s dream.

Like a lot of aspiring young talent, Medlin is from a very small town. She grew up in Roanoke Rapids, NC, which is right near the Virginia border. Medlin refers to her hometown as “nice town to grow up in.” Although there was not always much to do, Medlin and her friends always found a creative way to have fun. They would go to the lake, enjoy bonfires, and even ride four-wheelers.

Medlin admits that she was always very serious about her grades in high school, and she always stayed heavily involved in extra-curricular activities. She is currently training for a half iron man triathlon, but she states that she has always been athletic. Cross-country, the swim team, and running track kept her occupied in high school. Keeping her body in shape plays a huge role in the world of modeling.

Magen said, “College was always a path I knew I would take.” She plans on becoming a Media Communications major after receiving her associates degree from Wake Technical Community College. Medlin would also like to take this major and direct it towards news broadcasting in the hopes that one day she could “host a popular show or have her own talk show.” Is it evident that Medlin was blesses with both beauty and brains. 

“My passion is definitely acting and modeling,” Medlin said. Those fields are both incredibly competitive, and she believes that getting a degree in communications is “the next best thing.”

Being a part of local theatre productions was something to which Medlin always stayed connected. “At the theater, my nickname was ‘the ham’ since I was always trying to entertain everyone,” Medlin said. The aspiring actress states that once she began doing photo shoots for the flyers of the productions she was participating in, she fell in love.

Medlin then began to search for modeling agencies. The first time she went to an open call audition, she was “hooked.” “My first job was for a local photographer who was looking to expand his portfolio, and he paid me to model for him,” Magen said. It appeared to be a decent job for it to be her first gig in the industry.

Having the suitable training from modeling and acting coaches is a definite must in this business. “Without the proper training, agencies or clients will not book you,” Medlin said. She reiterates the fact that clients will not waste their time nor their money to teach the model how to do their job. The client will hire another model that looks just like you, but will already have the proper training.

There are two types of modeling. There is print and runway. Some models often prefer one over the other. Magen loves taking high fashion photographs, and she also loves strutting down the catwalk. Medlin said, “The rush you get appearing on the runway decked out in designer clothes and jewelry in front of a crowd of hundreds is a feeling like nothing else.”

When asked who Medlin looks up to in the modeling or fashion world, she answered with none other than Tyra Banks. Magen expresses that Tyra Banks “proved that with hard work, thick skin, and determination, anything is possible.

Magen Medlin is a fun-loving young lady who has high goals for her life and is filled with determination. One of her favorite scriptures is Proverbs 4:23. It reads, “Above all else, guard your heart. For everything you do flows from it.”
